I know have ranted about the OneNote decision before.

But I can't stop being amazed by how stupid a decision it is for @Microsoft to abandon OneNote 2016.

There are so many small things about @MSOneNote 2016, which are missing from the Windows 10 version.
Custom Page Templates are a super powerful way to quickly create very structured notes. A OneNote 2016 feature, but missing from OneNote on Windows 10.
Customizability of the ribbon provides users with a way to access all controls, essential to their way of working, in one place. A OneNote 2016 feature, but missing from OneNote on Windows 10.
Date and time pickers to quickly and conveniently change the creation date and time of a note page. A OneNote 2016 feature, but missing from OneNote on Windows 10.
Functional sync even over VPNs. A OneNote 2016 feature, but missing from OneNote on Windows 10.
Ability to work with local OneNote files. A OneNote 2016 feature, but missing from OneNote on Windows 10.
For online Notebooks, the ability to choose the folder within OneDrive where the Notebook should be located. A OneNote 2016 feature, but missing from OneNote on Windows 10.
A wider range of colors to choose from for Sections. A OneNote 2016 feature, but missing from OneNote on Windows 10.
Embedding Excel spreadsheets directly into the Notes (not as an attachment). A OneNote 2016 feature, but missing from OneNote on Windows 10.
Editable file attachments. A OneNote 2016 feature, but missing from OneNote on Windows 10.
There are many more such useful features in OneNote 2016 that are missing from OneNote on Windows 10.

The decision to discontinue a feature-rich in favor of a half-baked one is ridiculous.
Not surprisingly, there is significant user-backlash.

I am sure @Microsoft have a plan. But I can't say I agree with it. And as a very regular user of OneNote 2016, I am disappointed.
It isn't so much that OneNote on Windows 10 isn't as feature-rich that bothers me. It is that as a user I no longer have even the option of sticking with OneNote 2016.
I am sure that the @MSOneNote team and the larger @Microsoft organization are working to make OneNote on Windows 10, as feature-rich as OneNote 2016.

But what's the hurry in discontinuing a feature-rich product for which, currently, there exists no effective substitute?
The Office 365 installers on their website no longer include OneNote 2016.

Hence, when I recently reformatted my Laptop, I lost access to OneNote 2016, and can't install it again!
That is @Microsoft ramming their strategy down the throat of a paying customer.

When I decided to subscribe for Office 365, I never once considered their promise of continuous Office upgrades to be actually a forced downgrade of functionality. </rant>
