1/ Obligatory controversial tweetstorm of the month: People have been too busy dunking on Facebook to notice that China may be quietly taking over US Social media with TikTok 
2/ TikTok is extraordinarily popular amongst US teens and growing extremely fast. It may be a fad, it may endure. Regardless, given China’s philosophy on privacy perhaps some attention should be paid to its rise by privacy advocates outraged at FB.
3/ In related news, one of the largest shareholders in Fortnite is Tencent.
4/ While China is blocked to western technology companies not willing to play by its rules, Chinese and China-affiliated software players are quietly growing market share in the western world (and accumulating a huge volume of data in the process).
5/ Pundits have talked of the "splinternet" - a balkanization of the internet between the US and China. I believe a more likely - and scary - future is a "splatternet" - a global splattering of Chinese technological power all across the world, including right here in America.
6/ This dynamic should be a huge news story right now, but it's too nuanced for the popular narrative to digest. Fin.
