Last year at @emeraldcitycon, I asked @NotLasers when he was going to have me on the @XPlaintheXmen podcast. He said "You'll be writing the X-Men before we can get up to the issues you'd want to talk about."

He was so right.

And like, I don't think he understood how much that meant to me. I don't think he could have. I had already liked him a lot, but that was the moment where I went WELP, RIDE OR DIE.

I had just lost Alice. Is was in a great place, career-wise, but a terrible place. emotionally, and the human brain isn't good at novelty. We get used to things. I was, somewhat shamefully, both looking at my books and my accolades, and going "I can't even get Marvel to call me."

When all you want is one thing--when you've transformed one thing into "this is how I'll know I didn't fuck up when I decided against becoming a high school English teacher"--and you can't seem to even start getting close to it, having someone you respect casually go...

"Nah, it's already yours, you just aren't quite ready for it yet" is like having the bogeyman come out of your closet with a warm blanket and a plate of cookies and all your favorite movies on DVD. It's RESTORATIVE.

And now I'm writing the X-Men. Not a major title (yet), but still the X-Men, and I've been allowed to start with some of my favorites, and it's...it's everything I thought it would be. And @NotLasers helped me not give up hope.

So anyway, this is a long way of saying I write the X-Men now, so I'm going to be on the podcast, along with some of my best beloved friends and some people who aren't friends yet, but maybe will be. And you can be there! Live and in person!
