Bernie, If someone bought something for $300,000 and it doesn't work, your solution is to stick the bill on taxpayers so even more people could get the same defective product for free. Ask yourself why are those people not able to earn enough to pay off the loan.
The student loans wouldn't be a problem if the education they are used to pay for is valuable enough to enable students to earn enough to pay off the loans easily. If the education received is not valuable enough to enable that, the solution isn't to have govt subsidize it.
Making college free in the U.S. would only ensure that colleges continue to churn out completely unemployable graduates with impunity. Combine that with UBI and soon enough you will have a nation full of ideologically opiated masses that are unemployed and unemployable.
