Many of the criticisms thus far of my @TheAtlantic piece on immigration are anticipated and answered in piece itself theatlantic.com/magazine/archi… But over weekend I'll write a reply to some for which there was not room in the original story
@TheAtlantic To one complaint, I'll reply here. I wrote that America was "built" on the idea that workers should also be voters. Many have objected that it was not "founded" on this idea.

Believe it or not, I'm acquainted with the history of voting rights in the USA. From Trumpocracy, p 141
@TheAtlantic A "foundation" is what you have at the start of the construction process. A "building" is what you see rising nearer the end of the process. The US was not "founded" as a democracy. But over the decades, the country you know has been built on that idea - imperfectly as I also say
