A thought inspired by @piersmorgan 's tweet: Brexiteers imagine the EU as an entity, endowed with plans and purposes, a continental power heir to Philip II, Louis XIV, Napoleon, etc. etc.
@piersmorgan That imagination has led Brexiteers to a series of dangerous mistakes about what is possible between UK and EU. It would be better to imagine the EU as a corpus of rules and regulations issued over decades - more like the Federal Communications Commission than like Philip II
@piersmorgan With the EU, there really isn't an "it" to negotiate with. At the beginning of the process, Brexiteer friends told me this wd be a huge advantage for UK: EU is hopelessly divided, sluggish.

But that's not an advantage to *you* if you're the one who needs the EU to do something
