Mini-rant time: this is the best example I've seen in ages of how not to write/present a code of conduct.

It's posted in the community centre gym I work out at, as well as next to the front desk.

Let's break down why it's terrible... poster outlining a code of conduct that says:
1) vague, meaningless platitudes masquerading as rules of conduct

Setting aside that the language is weirdly infantilizing, how do I look at someone's behaviour and assess whether they're "expecting the best"? What, exactly, constitutes being "responsible" or "respectful"?
There's no behaviour identified in the majority of the rules listed here. Nothing that people are expected to do or not do, but just general ways of being that sound nice, I guess.

PARENTS OF THE YEAR 2019 award goes to the fucking jackasses who brought a year old inconsolable infant into a 7pm movie screening and then loudly argued for 2 hours over who should leave, and who should stay with the equally awful other kids, and then deciding to do nothing.
im sure MARY POPPINS RETURNS is a perfectly fine film, but it paled to a grown man in a celtics jersey screaming at his wife and baby to shutup because hes so invested in MARY POPPINS RETURNS that he REFUSES to deal with his own infant, WHICH IS IN A MOVIE THEATER FOR SOME REASON
i really liked the part in the third act of MARY POPPINS RETURNS where a child was crawling on the floor of an obviously disgusting theater around my feet while the mother slowly trailed behind her having a full volume conversation with shitbag husband literally across the room.

One of the things that has allowed me to be successful in life is my ability to view things from a truly objective position. This does NOT mean that I look at things from both sides, it means that I have the ability to remove emotional bias and see things for what they truly are.
If more people would learn how to do this, we would not have the great divide that we do among Americans. People have become so entrenched in their sphere of belief that if you do not agree with them, they want to silence/destroy you.
3) One of the main problems is, as a society, we do not personally communicate with other people very much anymore. We are behind a keyboard for 95% of our communication with people outside of our families, and we have forgotten how to talk TO people instead of AT them.

I have complicated feelings about Harlan Ellison, because Harlan Ellison was complicated. @warrenellis described him as "great author and cautionary tale, arsehole and titan," and that's a start. Separating him from his work is nigh impossible, because they intertwined.
Ellison was as much text as person, really. And it was uncompromising. And that's generally a compliment, except when it isn't.
I will say this -- if you have never, ever been offended by anything that Harlan Ellison wrote or said or did? Go read more Ellison. Go find that thing he said or did or wrote that will piss you off and make you want to scream at the top of your lungs.
