Still no action on bumpstock case, with about 90 minutes to go. If DC Circuit and #SCOTUS deny stay, those who possess bumpstocks will be in violation of federal law. supremecourt.gov/search.aspx?fi…
With 30 mins to go, I think it is unlikely we see any more developments. The DC Circuit's administrative stay remains in effect only as to members of the Plaintiffs' organizations. All other Americans who still have bump stocks are now in violation of federal law.
And, unless the Chief Justice acts first, if the DC Circuit lifts its administrative stay, then all Plaintiffs are in violation of federal law--a period that would last until cert is denied.
We're at midnight. About 200,000 people with bumpstocks are now in violation of federal law. The Chief did not act on the administrative stay.
I shudder to think what would have happened if President Obama, through executive action, reversed course, and banned a type of firearm owned by 200,000 Americans, and #SCOTUS declined to issue administrative stay to permit disposition of cert petition.
