As an ardent believer in the scheme, I feel It's time to upscale the initiative and make it all encompassing. Yes the traders will continue to take the loans and repay, but there is an intersection where Illiteracy, disease and poverty meet.

Repayment of loans and business expansion does not signify prosperity. Without the infusion of education - literacy, numeracy, basic accounting principles and introductory economics skills in simple and understandable language, the market men and women will make poor decisions.

They must be trained. This is the only way to confidently and comfortably bring them out of poverty.
There are viable templates in several countries, micro loans alone won't make them successful.

Then you must protect their health because diseases and illnesses will erode their capital. Healthcare costs will impoverish them before dawn. Their household expenditure will be hit by healthcare cost and if they make poor health choices, their situation will worsen..

The scheme must be layered with health insurance or Medical savings scheme that is affordable that can protect them against catastrophic healthcare costs..

Any attempt to involve the NHIS will capsize instantly..

There are viable private sector driven templates.
