If this is the way they cut bagels in St. Louis, then that town is now my arch enemy.
I consider this to be a Cardinal sin.
Back in the day, St. Louis used to have enough RAM to figure out that this was terrible.

There’s much to be said for the argument that Trumpism is warmed over McCarthyism, fancied up with a new coat of birther paint. 20-30% of white Americans have always been drawn to such lunacy. They’ve never had their very own President, however.
Ok, “always” was a bad word choice. “Long” would have been better.
This would be a good time to revisit historian Richard Hofstadter writing about The Paranoid Style in American Politics in November 1964 in response to Goldwater-ite wackiness, which pales in comparison to Trumpist wackiness. harpers.org/archive/1964/1…

Does anyone else find it odd that Gabbard's video about the Mueller report says that it's a good thing Mueller found no collusion, otherwise it could have precipitated a Civil War?
I mean, it's a good thing because having a non-colluding president is a good thing. But what's the deal with the "whew, good thing Trump's supporters didn't rise up and shoot people when their man was proven to have colluded with Russia and impeached?"
It reminds me of the alt-right argument from 2016 that any American criticisms of Russia would provoke a war with that country, while Trump's praise of Russia would preserve peace.

Back in the day when all we had was crappy mapquest, I used to get paper maps from AAA for road trips, which I saved. Also had a road atlas. Then google maps and GPS got good enough that one day I looked at my shoebox of maps and atlas and went “why do I have this crap?”...
Most of these maps were in great condition btw, and real works of cartographic art. They were just... obsolete.

So one day I just tossed the lot. I’m not sentimental.

Here’s the thing... lately I’ve been getting that same sense from my collection of books. Both paper and ebook.
Phonebooks, atlases, maps, recipe books, encyclopedias, dictionaries, books of quotations, poetry books, joke books, textbooks,... dozens of categories of printed matter have already gone “deep digital”: they make no sense to digitize in their original form.

I've been doing some work on evangelizing people who have no faith. I've been using a Catholic program to help present the Gospel to them. It's been a good experience and has helped me come to some deeper realizations about how we ought to be evangelizing. (Thread)
1) They inhabit a fundamentally different metaphysical worldview. I've mentioned this before that they see truth and reality and meaning as something constructed rather than given. Christianity is a worldview based in the idea of "gift" and we keep presenting it in this manner...
yet we do little to help people cross the bridge to the Christian metaphysical worldview. This is a sort of pre-evangelization that we really need to take into account, and we need to really put an effort into apologetics in this realm to help people move from this worldview.
