It is true in abstract; it just isn't true in reality.
It's why voters were justified in voting for the abstract in 2016. And why they'd be equally justified in voting against the reality in 2019.
Whereas polls asking 'Remain vs particular version of Leave' (reality) results in a much bigger lead for Remain.
"Well who the hell brought us here!? Who signed us up to something we can't practically leave? Who denied us referendums along that road? Who patted us on the head and assured us we still have sovereignty?"
But positions that are demonstrably truer now. And are also adult positions facing the world as it is.
