The issue with Brexitism is not that it's wrong; it's that it is nearly true.

It is true in abstract; it just isn't true in reality.

It's why voters were justified in voting for the abstract in 2016. And why they'd be equally justified in voting against the reality in 2019.
It's why opinion polls asking 'Remain vs Leave' (abstract) are quite finely balanced, even now.

Whereas polls asking 'Remain vs particular version of Leave' (reality) results in a much bigger lead for Remain.
But the clues about this were always there within the Leave movement. Hiding in plain sight.
The problem we have now is that Leavers can legitimately ask
"Well who the hell brought us here!? Who signed us up to something we can't practically leave? Who denied us referendums along that road? Who patted us on the head and assured us we still have sovereignty?"
The answer is of course "Remainers". It is why Leavers are angry, why they demand this vote be enacted come what may, and why they refuse to consider another referendum which they see as insulting.
There's no easy answer to this: it is "a Remainer's Lot" to defend the "less shit"; the "we are where we are"; and of course the imperfect EU. All positions that lost in 2016.

But positions that are demonstrably truer now. And are also adult positions facing the world as it is.
