I have a theory for all the questions about 'Why do these comic writers obsess with food?'

My take on the whole thing; it's more manga influence though for the wrong reason. Manga is not just a style we see in the characters but the world around them and this includes food.

A lot of guides from Japan draw heavy emphasis on the importance of getting the look of your characters down but also the world around them and this goes right down to the food. One could say there is a massive food culture over in Japan as well and it is shown in manga.

Hell, I actually have two 'how to draw the food' guides, direct from Japan, myself and yes. They go into painstaking details on how to draw, color and add details to food to capture the emotion that comes from seeing and from character eating it. The food can be considered a-

-character in of itself or at least as a means to give off the atmosphere of the setting our characters are in when they eat it. It's something I actual enjoy as well but I can see where people also get annoyed with it. Shit comic writers/artists try so hard to capture that-

-manga feeling when they show off food or show the characters eating. It's meant to create a look of togetherness and bounding but the reason a lot of people don't get the connection is because there is no real connection between the characters and the audience.

Think of your favorite manga series. Try to think of a moment where they were dining but it didn't bother you. It didn't bother you because these are characters you want to be around. Now imagine that with a group of focus you don't want to be around. Now add in shitty dialogue-

-and boom. The whole setting is ruined and just feels like padding and frankly. IT IS PADDING. They don't want to just have empty panels so fill it with food.

(sigh)

And I like drawing food too but yeah. They fucked it up.
