The person who wrote this works for an organization that works to criminalize gay sex, and now is given space in a national newspaper to complain about having been called what he is, named by what he has chosen to be: a member of a hate group.

Hate groups hate groups that hate hate groups.

We should all hope to be hated by such as them.
Working to push human beings out of public space has real consequences. This person’s only objection is that now some of the consequences are hers.

Every bully hates a counterpuncher.

Nobody should presume their hatred is sanitized just because they’ve elected to worship it.
(‘her’ in the OP, not ‘his.’)
My takeaway is this:

The resentful confusion these calm and hateful prayerful people now feel toward the fact they now face impolite truth about their hate, demonstrates the extent to which their hate has relied upon the polite silence of others.

Let’s confuse them even more.
Remember:

Conversion therapy that drives children to suicide is NOT 'cancel culture.'

Telling people that they suck for promoting and running self-loathing prisons for teens IS 'cancel culture.'
Remember:

A president letting 3,000 people die in Puerto Rico while framing them as another country is NOT 'cancel culture.'

Refusing to be nice to someone who supports such a president IS 'cancel culture.'
Remember: actual fascist demonizing of marginalized people is NOT 'cancel culture.'

Calling people 'fascist' who engage in fascist demonizing IS 'cancel culture.'
A person is hateful if they act to harm other humans, who are not harming them, simply because of who those other humans are.

A group involved in such hateful acts is a hate group.

Their reasons and self-justifications are immaterial.
Resisting hateful people, who are seeking to harm others, is opposition, not oppression.

We should all be very clear on the difference.
