oh dear, why is there no one in the press box for this meeting? it’s a joint session with council. surprised to see no one from the paper?

commissioner lyle says at a HAC meeting he attended recently councilor hill confirmed no new special use permits would be approved for student housing on west main.

commissioner rory reporting back about a meeting he attended re: what will be done with an $18mil surplus from the 29 solutions fund. one proposal is a left turn lane from 250 onto hydraulic. (that whole area is a goddamn disaster why did they put the whole foods there)

relieved to see this meeting is being remotely reported on! i can only stay until 6:30, when the police civilian review board meeting starts downstairs

chair lisa green notes that it may have gotten lost in the news yesterday with the basketball excitement, but we do have a new city manager! (i’m not sure when his start date is, though?)

we are waiting on councilors to show up for the joint session. commissioner rory is showing a gif of the fry’s spring neighborhood comparing 2013 to 2019 - the map shows the assessed value of each plot. development since 2013 is mostly very expensive houses.

he moves for a zoning text amendment to redesignate a few dozen parcels from R-1 to R-2 and the dais erupts with objections... the chair suggests this would be better suited to a work session.

missy creasy from neighborhood development services disagrees with rory’s assertion that his move for the redesignation is what kicks off a 100 day period for staff to study the impact of the rezoning.

lisa robertson from the city attorney’s office says he can initiate a zoning text amendment. with that assurance, he gets a second from the dais. i was looking down so i’m not certain which male voice offered it - i think heaton?

mitchell says he doesn’t want to see the idea “crash and burn” but asks rory to withdraw the motion so the commission has time to consider it.

rory offers to amend the motion to be less specific - asking only for an assessment of possible redesignation of nonconforming & vacant parcels in fry’s spring. it’s seconded again... but the chair is clearly uncomfortable with this being sprung on them.

lisa green moves further discussion of this matter to the end of the meeting. three city councilors are now in chambers for the joint session.

i guess all the old white people here tonight are here for this, since it’s the only agenda item of the joint session.

i don’t entirely understand this agenda item? it sounds like they need to build a pump station but it would be on a residential lot & technically the HOA would be responsible for the pump station? i don’t know any HOA’s that should be responsible for any kind of public utility...

what happens if the pump that takes the sewage away fails?! several commissioners have asked. he isn’t answering that. is the HOA president going to fix the poop pump?? i have questions.

we’re going to hear from the applicant now. a old woman in the audience asks the chair “can i ask you something really quick?” when she’s told to wait (for the public hearing), she just leaves. 🤷‍♀️

oh wow i’m really invested in this neighborhood-operated poop pump situation but the CRB meeting is starting momentarily in the basement conference room. i’m so torn.

the applicant says the HOA will hire a professional operator who will perform at least yearly maintenance and turn in reports to the city.

ok ok i think i have to switch meetings. but i’m not happy about it!
