The best technology is infinitely adaptable. This handsome tram from 1895 in Kyoto first ran with overhead electric cables, but since 2014 it has been fitted with an adapted internal lithium battery similar to what an electric car uses. Not bad for 120+ year old public transport.
Meanwhile in the rest of the world Australia orders Korean trains too wide for its tunnels (“It takes a special type of incompetence to buy trains that don’t fit through the tunnels”) and in France they order trains that are too wide for the platforms. telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews…
Maybe my favorite is Gothenburg in Sweden that ordered trams from Italy made for the Mediterranean climate. The few trams that didn't rust up in the harsh Swedish winter developed mold in the summer. sverigesradio.se/sida/artikel.a…
I like the 救助網 (Kyujoami), the "rescue net" mounted on the front of many older trams. It was to scoop up dropped obstacles or even people rather than running them over. I wonder how it worked in practice? The driver would switch the nets from front to the back when reversing.

The Cubans ate local, produced local, and ate better for it. Instead of a few monoculture mega farms, they had hundreds of thousands of small urban farms. (Ht:@Rjrasva)

Beyond architectural style, what makes for a more attractive, higher value neighborhood? Let's have a look at some of the things that we have known for decades, centuries, yet still chose to ignore. Thread.
Everyone knows green space increases value, but it has to be high quality green space, it has to feel ”built up”, tight, cared for. The "Tower in a park" kind of green, like the urban parsley between parking lots and next to roads actually decrease the value of nearby properties.
One well placed pocket park increases the value of a neighborhood more than access to a far larger but poorly laid out park. This holds true for all kinds of properties, private homes as well as offices or public buildings.

Attack on police HQ in Chabahar in Sistan&Baluchestan in #Iran.Sources say gunfire erupted between authorities&armed attackers.
Commander of this HQ, 2 members of security forces, 2 members of their families've been killed& 20 members of security forces' families've been injured.
According to sources five more members of Iranian security forces have been injured in the attack. Sources add that this base was responsible for killing Balouchi youth for no reason and it was working hand in hand with the IRGC in suppressing Balouchi people.
Iranian media claim Ansar Al-Furqan is behind the attack. Ansar Al-Furqan is an insurgent group established in 2013. This group was initially created and armed by the IRGC to fight Balouchi movement but four years later a significant part of the group rejected working with Iran.

Ok, so, you've heard of that one South African guy who makes electric cars but you probably haven't heard of the Optimal Energy Joule, a Cape Town project that never went to commercial production. Designed by the guy who did the F-Type, it collapsed as a project in 2012:
This one you can actually buy, despite looking like a retrofuristic concept, so long as you have a very large amount of cash. It's the Mercedes Maybach Vision which is one of the weirdest cars I've ever seen - there's basically nothing in that enormous bonnet and it's 2.2m long

I did something similar to this 5 years ago, in anticipation of EC & @theroots' Wise Up Ghost LP, on tumblr.

(You can still find all those posts if you look, although a lot of the YouTube links etc are now dead ends. It was 40 Days Of EC then, so for 2018 I'm upping it to 45.)
Mostly I will be going chronologically from the early years right up to the present, but it feels right to start out with Costello's 2002 song, "45."
