Don’t let people try to sell you on believing the @GBCorg is a benevolent progressive organization looking out for low wage workers because they want a (slow) increase in the minimum wage. They also want legislation that precludes counties from raising the wage higher or faster
This is known as preemption, and it is a strategy used by ALEC, a right wing bill mill. The goal is to prevent places like Baltimore city, Montgomery, and Prince George’s county from raising their wage above the state floor.

It’s also a strategy Scott Walker used a lot.
This is also the logic used in @MayorPugh50 veto of the 15 wage bill, that Baltimore city should not be alone, and that we needed a uniform state wide push, this was preemption by strong mayor veto, and it is right out of the ALEC playbook.
It’s also the logic Delegate Davis (who wants to be speaker of the house) used in 2017, when he and several other democrats submitted a bill to prevent local jurisdictions from raising the wage higher and faster than the state.

The @GBCorg wants to suppress individual counties from raising wages faster and higher than the state of Maryland and that puts Baltimore workers at direct risk, this is a right wing strategy to slowball better working conditions.
Frankly, the @GBCorg puts profit and power over people, and this is the perfect example of how they do it with a veneer of liberal legitimacy. Preemption is economic and political protection of the right of businesses to exploit workers by keeping them below a living wage.
