Here are the things commenter "Sushi" pointed out on my blog about The Mister vs. Poldark:

Maxim is childhood best friends with his closest male relative's wife.
Closest male relative dies and the Earldom (including AN ESTATE IN CORNWALL) goes to Maxim.
But WHOOPS, childhood best friend/woman Maxim loves is pregnant, making closest male relative's baby the heir.
And Maxim is attracted to his elfin housekeeper who has run from an abusive background.
That's as far as I've gotten but oh my god, that's so fucking wild.
No wonder I'm so fucking drawn in.

How old is that play? Like, at least four hundred years, right? And people are still like, "They killed themselves for love, how stupid!" No. Romeo killed himself for love. Juliet married Romeo to avoid an arranged marriage, faked her death, and woke up a widow.
The only way Juliet couldn't be forced to marry Paris is if she was already married. But her marriage was secret and her husband was exiled. Her powerful family and her intended's powerful family could have easily still gone ahead with the marriage.

This is a good thread. I have similar feelings when I see some of the stuff about billionaire romance that goes around, declaring it dead or shallow or inappropriate for our current political climate.
I totally get not wanting to read rich, white, alphole billionaire heroes. But I have a real issue with the idea that poor and working-class women aren't supposed to fantasize about having a lot of money because *ideological purity*.
We see a lot of people in various privileged positions declaring a trope dead while not thinking past their own experiences on the subject. A black author or reader wants a book about black billionaires in a genre dominated by whiteness? There has to be room.

Yesterday, I saw the best clarification tweet I've ever seen, in which someone said basically, "I'm not trying to build up Person A by tearing down Person B. They're both assholes but Person A is just slightly less of an asshole," and I have been thinking about it ALL NIGHT.
I feel like we sometimes think that if we criticize an author or other creative's behavior in a situation, people assume we're picking a side or declaring undying loyalty.
I've publically criticized authors whose work I like. I've publically defended people I'd love to see get hit by cars. Sometimes, it's the context of the situation and not the people involved that someone is commenting on.

From an initial universe of 50,000+ tweets from 32 Twitter feeds operated by major national news outlets, we identified 2,000+ tweets that referenced Trump comments. 30% of those tweets referenced false claims, but roughly two-thirds of the time, the outlets didn't note that.

I have an lowkey inappropriate Good Friday story (it's really just one line, but it will stick with you) which is embedded in a very pure such catholic wow kinda story so I'm deeply torn whether I should tell it
okay. I grew up very catholic in a very catholic family st anthony, st christopher, rosaries on car trips, no tv on good friday etc. I'm hard wired & in high school even came to love it. Considered priesthood. Underlays my a certain element of my draw to medieval studies
