@JesseJenkins Actually if you want a closer picture of what's happening re: cooperation and defection, imagine a top math class (or CS class) at Harvard or Stanford. 100 students. Assume 68% default pro-social, following Hauser et al. Most of the other 32 are detached but not amoral.
@JesseJenkins But about 3 or 4 really have no interest in social norms, are self-directed, and have high drive to succeed. The talent in the class is randomly distributed across the ethical spectrum, and one of the amoral cohort may be close or at the top of the class in ability.
@JesseJenkins Now turn them all loose in an economic system where the principal bias is towards the concentration of wealth.
@JesseJenkins Do the less moral ones surface at a higher rate with wealth & influence? This seems indicated by results. And most of the rest of the class finds jobs working for them. That leads to a spiral. vanityfair.com/news/2016/11/j…
@JesseJenkins This story -- centered on two more @Harvard grads, Mark Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg -- speaks for itself
@JesseJenkins @Harvard This dynamic of our system is more fun to watch when portrayed with M&M's.
@JesseJenkins @Harvard John Paulson, above, is both the largest donor to Central Park and the largest donor to Harvard.
