GSA’s are student run and student initiated. Parents don’t need to be advised or aware of a student’s participation, unless the student informs them.

This is the issue being protested.

Parental rights do not give parents absolute control of their child’s existence.
It just means they have the responsibility to feed, clothe and shelter their child. They owe their child, not the other way around. We parents are their caretakers, not their owners.

Part of caretaking vs ownership is actually caring for your child.
Part of caring is loving them for who they are. And allowing them to be who they were born to be. We start doing everything for them, but gradually we must let them determine their own destiny.

Children and adults have a right to privacy.
Unless a child is in severe emotional distress or physical danger, what purpose does it serve to inform parents a child is attending a GSA?

I no more expect to be informed of my child’s attendance at a GSA, than I do when he loses his virginity.
It’s none of my business. My job is to instill the values in his childhood that guide his initiation into adulthood. I don’t own him, I care for him, regardless of his choices.
I love him because of who he is, not because he reflects who I am. I gave him life, much love and guidance, the rest is up to him. It’s part of my heart that is “owned” by him, not the other way around.
