Good heavens, journalists. You have to stop hating on your audience. If you can't respond to legit criticism and instead resort to generalisations like 'hyper-partisan tools' and nonsense like 'post-Christian left', you're condemning yourself by your own hand.
The reason we know you're not serious when you decry partisanship is because you direct all your ire at the powerless on Twitter and almost none of it at the powerful partisans within your own industry. Doesn't that completely fly in the face of your role as a watchdog on power?
This sort of article just underlines the genuine criticism you get, that you too often miss the point. The few lines about polite criticism at the end don't 'balance' the pile-on before it. You're in a position of power relative to your audience & you need to recognise that too.
This sort of anger directed at your audience has been going on for 2 decades, since blogging first took off. Now it's directed at social & you seem to have learned almost nothing. You get angry at the worst criticism & ignore the best. And then turn around and ask us to subscribe
Social media is not going away, so you need to find a better way to respond. You need to recognise there's an audience desperate for good journalism and you need to understand *their* frustration.
Try and take this in without just dismissing it: articles like this are not answer.
