Cambridge Analytica had legal exposure of £43.5 billion under UK Data Protection Act of 1998. A £5000 claim for each of the 87 million victims of unlawful political profiling. They folded before it could be proven in court.
(That’s even discounting the figure to only 10% of the 87 million who might conceivably pursue a claim if they could have and £5000 is the bottom-range of fines, so this estimate is actually conservative!)
Big picture: An FTC fine less than $50 billion is a joke given that Facebook aided and abetted the unlawful political profiling of all US registered voters on UK soil in violation of their laws.
In the fall, Americans may have a clearer picture of how their rights were violated in the UK during the US presidential campaigns. The only question is if the US press will finally report this untold story when the facts truly emerge.
