1. One of the worst things about our modern Idiocracy is the self-righteous condemnation of evolution of thought and belief. "You believed THIS years ago, which was common, so you are evil." It's a-historical nonsense.

I'm an example. In 2003 Lawrence v Texas ruling, SCOTUS....
2...overruled state sodomy laws. This, to me, was an obvious outcome, since the state had no legitimate reason to interfere in people's sex lives.

In the dissent, Scalia said this would lead to gay marriage..
3.....which I read and thought "Oh, that's ridiculous." The concept of gay marriage was completely foreign to me, and to a large degree, foreign to much of society. That was why Scalia was using it as a "this could happen!" fear mongering.

Years later, knowledge had helped me..
4...evolve. I recognized the ignorance of my original thoughts. Ten years later, I was writing articles attacking the absurd arguments of those who opposed gay marriage (see attached). I had become a strong advocate for it.... vanityfair.com/news/politics/…
5...however, in modern times, an evolution of knowledge would be deemed a "flip flop" - not the reality of being an person willing to continuously examine his beliefs while living in an every changing world...
6...then there would be the worst, arrogant people -who would look at anything I said or thought long ago & act as if people do not grow and change. Probably that is because they never have. Hold people accountable for who they ARE, not for being products of their time years ago.
7. OH! Here is my favorite thing I wrote about gay marriage, in which i punched opponents in the stomach over and over. newsweek.com/2014/10/24/why…
