/Yesterday I posted two slides from my talk this weekend and there was certainly a great deal of strong reactions. Thank you for all your input, whatever position you come from. As a reminder, LDL vs ACM was something I longed talked about before having this first dataset...
/ On many podcasts and interviews, I expressed my great desire to eventually get a hold of a large dataset and finally run this analysis directly. I was happy that time finally arrived a month ago, which is why I've been unusually quiet on social media while deep in the data...
/ I'll reemphasize once more, so there's no misunderstanding -- I don't feel this data proves causality. It shows association. But association is important when it runs counter to a claim of causality for the reverse. You want to determine why this would be so...
/ Which is why I started that last section of the talk with this following slide. I emphasize this is the beginning of a discussion, not its conclusion...
/ Moreover, I'm clearly interested in changing the dynamic of this debate. Now I'm working with a large dataset that many others of an opposing opinion have as well. Rather than the usual study exchanging ("but did you see this study..."), we have shared data in the middle...
/ So if there's a series of adjustments that are defensible and justified, I'm interested in looking at them together. Observing each step of change along the way is something very different than what we're used to in this space (but common in engineering, of course)...
/ And of course, I look forward to any and data errors spotted. It's certainly possible that once further reviewed, we may find I made a mistake somewhere in the analysis, and if so, I'll air it promptly. I only wish this were commonplace. That raw data were regularly available.
/ The larger point is that we can finally look under the hood together. I've long speculated about LDL vs ACM and the importance of keeping the latter in mind with regard "the balance sheet", which (naturally) was a very large portion of my presentation.
/ Whatever adjustments are defensible and justified that would flip this trend to its reverse I'm certainly interested in knowing about. Again, and as always, I welcome productive discussion on this crucial topic. :)
