There's a ghost of the 1930s in the Daily Telegraph. If you know your code.
It's that oily upper class familiarity with the far right. It was there in the 1930s, and it's there again now, a whiff of it.
In the 30s, maybe some upper class Englishmen, full of their own fart gas, thought they could use Hitler to insulate themselves against Communism, which is what really gave them nightmares.
And there's a shadow of it in the way the same stagnant old men - Blimpish, they were called - think they can use Nagel Farage and his far right bootboys to insulate themselves against Europe.
It's not to the same degree, but it's the same species of stupidity. The intellectually backward upper class who think they can absorb this creature and gentrify it.
That's the mentality we're seeing. Or I am, because I read the Tory news. Elderly English public schoolboys who think they can gentrify fascism and use it to insulate themselves.
