Below is the detailed chronology and sequence of events that transpired between the negligent antiBlack staff and administration at the local school level @TDSB_Glenview & @tdsb as narrated by the impacted student and her family.
NO THIS DID NOT START IN MARCH 2019! In November 2018, a white male student @Glenview Senior Public School harassed a 12 yr-old Black girl by way of anti-Black sexualized/gendered assaults against her and her family. This white male student proclaimed in front of several students
“you sleep with your father", insinuating the young Black girl and her father have an inappropriate sexual, illegal and abusive relationship. When the young Black girl attempted to take this to the office the receptionist said “there was no one in
administration available,” and never followed up with her. The impacted young Black student took it upon herself to seek support from the Guidance Counsellor, Nishi Meghji. Nishi Meghji furthered this Black student’s experience of anti-Black sexualized/gendered violence at the
school by having her sit with her abuser while Nishi Meghji never contacted the Black student’s parents. To the best of the family's knowledge Meghji has no formal training in conflict mediation or transformative justice etc. It is important to note the Black students parent was
not made aware of this issue until well after the fact. In this meeting the young Black girl describes being forced to take "equal blame" and "apologize" to the white male student for repeating the very comment he MADE TO HER FIRST. Nishi Meghji went as far as side-stepping
policies and procedures outlined by the school (and TDSB) by not immediately telling the school administration. Nishi Meghji didn’t tell anyone this happened until well after the fact, period! Who was Meghji protecting? What was she concealing and from whom?
Meghji's “mediation” amounted to nothing! The white male student approached the young Black girl during lunch in December of 2018 (less than a month later) and said “you have nigger hair.” When the young Black student tried to take it to school staff, their first reaction was to
instance of anti-blackness from the same white child culprit. Thankfully, our young Black sister did have a witness, and despite all this the white student was not consequenced as per the guidelines of the Caring and Safe School policy.
He has NEVER been consequenced for consistently breaking the terms of the “mediation” presented on November 2018 and later on December 2018. The school did not notify the Black student’s parent even after the the 2nd antiBlack abusive incident occurred—there was no suspension,
no activation of the TDSB advisors in the Caring and Safe Schools unit, despite this being blatantly
anti-Black and another moment of assault from this white male culprit. The young Black girl was forced to have her abuser continue to be around her while she tried to learn in a school environment that was actively protecting her abuser and placing her at risk daily.
her abuser and placing her at risk daily. These ongoing incidences of unaddressed persistent anti-black violence culminated in an assaulted on the young the Black girl on March 27, 2019 when he punched her in the eye and attacked her with a weapon causing both a black eye and her
nose to bleed (this occurred inside the classroom). The teacher did not intervene to protect the Black student from her white male abuser. When this happened the school did not call the police (not that we are advocates for police) but let's be abundantly clear police are
contacted and called on Black students and parents for far less, there is a well documented history of this. No one called the EMS or sought medical attention for the Black student. Instead, they called the Black students parents and downplayed her injuries. On Monday
May 6, 2019 after relentless advocacy by the Black child's parent, finally she, her family & supports were granted a meeting with school officials. In attendance at this meeting was the Principal of Glenview Public School Mario Sirois, Vice-Principal Maryam Hasan, 
Superintendent Diana Panagiotopoulos, Executive Superintendent Beth Butcher, Centrally Assigned Principal Courtney Lewis (a Black man who had never met the family/student before but was deployed to act as a mouthpiece for the TDSB and ALLLLLL THE things they REFUSED to do while
the Principal sat silently, essentially losing his shit during the meeting acting out against the Black child, her mother and grandmother), and the surprise Black Social Worker assigned to the student on May 3, 2019. Please note, this was after several months of no support,
intervention or planning had been initiated with the student or her family since November 2018. It became clear in this meeting that the Toronto District School Board, and specifically the individuals in attendance at this meeting, had no regard for the student or family’s
experiences of antiBlack racism. In fact, on several occasions acts of antiBlack violence had to be interrupted during the meeting, in order to make clear the impact of the violence towards the student (from paid TDSB employees) and her family. It is these very dehumanizing,

abusive, degrading and humiliating antiBlack behaviours from the administrators and staff in that room on May 6, 2019 that have landed the family here. There were a few significant outcomes from this meeting 1) an outright refusal to suspend, expel or discipline the white student
2.)the white male student continues to learn and attend classes regularly and continues to harass the Black student while, 3) the impacted young Black girl is not learning and not in the classroom in fear of her safety because of 4) the continued harassment, abuse and
..intimidation on a daily basis not only by this white student and other students, but also staff and administration. Recently the Black student shared a complaint of abuse and continued intimidation during lunchtime and Principal Mario Sirois’ response was to offer the Black
student ‘hush lunch’ money, essentially free lunch for several days—which is an unprecedented practice at least with this particular Black student. Negotiations about Black life and Black students are worth more than free “hush lunch”, and this too is any other example of
antiBlackness and complete disregard for parental conversation or intervention. When asked why he offered the student “free lunch” Principal Sirois’ and his colleagues alike were unable to answer why a young Black girls calls for “safety and protection” resulted in paid educators
and the TDSB responding with a “hush lunch”. At the end of the meeting a safety plan for the student was requested.
