@conor64 2. Some 70 percent of all American journalists are under the age of 50, per Pew. Roughly 60 percent of Democratic primary voters in 2016 were over the age of 45. And there’s, um, a little generational split when it comes to Biden’s support:

1. From Feb. 1-4, 1974, Gallup posed an equivalent question, and found 38% support, less than the level registered here. On Feb. 6, the House voted to open a formal impeachment inquiry.
2. By the next time Gallup polled, April 12-15, public opinion had flipped. The public said yes, 52 to 33 percent.

Had Congress waited for majority support, Nixon would’ve finished out his term. Instead, it placed the evidence before the American people, and they listened.

theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/… I appreciate the point, that it’s ridiculous that men get kudos for being half as good as women. But I also must point out that brow-beating and nagging is also work, and telling women to do more of it adds to women’s unfair work load.
The reason women do more work is simple: Men force them into a binary choice. You either a) do the work all by yourself or b) nag him. Most of the time, A, while exhausting, is less exhausting than B, which makes you miserable as well as tired.
In addition, men punish women for nagging. They withhold affection, mock women, and in worst case scenarios, abuse them. This is why I call it the “nagging differential” and it is, in my opinion, the main reason domestic labor differences persist.

Interesting two-page article in ISIS’s weekly al-Naba on Mohammed bin Salman’s religious policies in Saudi Arabia. The conclusion especially.. 1/2
ISIS says MBS knows that he’ll benefit from some chaos as the West will come to his help if there is any extremist move there, so it warns its followers not to fall into the trap: “don’t be the fodder of a battle not yours. The [nature of] our fight is clear.” 2/
ISIS is essentially advising its cells in Saudi Arabia not to make uncalculated moves there and instead “to learn the lessons of their brethren in Syria, Iraq and other wilayat of the Islamic State.”

theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/… It really is remarkable that the president spouts Putin’s propaganda, and everyone shrugs because it’s not news that he’s Putin’s puppet.

Sure, there’s still work that needs to be done *proving* it, but that Putin owns him is not controversial anymore.
If you want to know what life under a puppet government is like, I suppose that’s it: The official line is the president is a democratic leader, but everyone just knows that he’s actually being controlled by a foreign power.
Also worth pausing to note that the same people who made 1984’s Red Dawn a big hit would now greet a Russian invasion by waving Russian flags and cheering their new leader Putin, with Trump at his side, in the streets.

Re-upping what I wrote for @TheAtlantic on the Helsinki press conference. The problem then was that unquestioningly accepting the dictator's word made Trump look weak. It will be interesting to see if the same dynamic plays out now. theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/…
