Folks, yesterday marked the 309th anniversary of the day when the Sikhs, led by Banda Singh Bahadur entered the city of #Sirhind.
Here's a short thread on the events leading up to this significant victory for the Khalsa Panth.

#Sirhind was the unfortunate witness to the martyrdom of the two younger Sahebzadas of Guru Gobind Singh at the hands of its Governor Wazir Khan, who'd vowed to finish the Sikhs after the battle of Anandpur Saheb in 1704.

Sahebzadas Fateh Singh and Zorawar Singh were just 9 and 6 years old respectively, but stood firm to their faith like a rock.

This day in 1999 Capt Saurabh Kalia's patrol was engaged by Pakis in Kaksar. They fought back till the time they ran out of ammunition.
Remember, it was still the early days and the Indian Army were still looking to fix the numbers and extent of infiltration

Surrounded, the men of 4 Jat - Lt Saurabh Kalia & Sepoys Arjun Ram, Bhanwar Lal Bagaria, Bhika Ram, Moola Ram & Naresh Singh were captured alive before Indian reinforcements could reach them.
Radio Skardu announced their capture some time later.

What followed was 22 days of inhuman torture that belies description, before their mortal remains were handed back to the Indian Army.
Their mutilated bodies was how the world saw the Kargil war begin.

Thread: Had to explain to someone why neutering a cat before they breed is ethical and outweighs the other possible end result of letting them repeatedly breed, then watching authorities horrifically poison all with strychnine. 🙈 and people wonder why I prefer animals.
I’m lucky. Where I live, thanks to a few hard workers, the cat population is pretty much controlled. But that’s thanks to hard work and effort of people that care. It doesn’t just happen. Others take that for granted.
Red Sea resorts like Hurghada, Sharm and Dahab are over run with cats and there’s consistent poisoning. There’s no change. It’s horrific to watch. It’s dangerous to humans and it’s so unnecessary. El Gouna is a humane, ethical city and long may that continue.

Never mind the fact that it turns a 1.5 crossing into one taking at least 4.5 hours, why would Belgian or Dutch ports apply fewer checks than French ones in a no deal scenario? Also, you can’t move the Channel Tunnel to Zeebrugge. I don’t understand the point of this.
“Bypassing Calais” adds time (minimum x3) and therefore cost, plus you’re sailing to the same customs union, the same trading partner. If you have a problem in Calais you’ll have one in Zeebrugge and Vlissingen. The problem is at the UK end. #StopBrexit
“We could make a profit and screw over the French” says a source… A Tory minister who is evidently so hard at the thought of a fight with France that he’s ditching a central plank of Tory DNA since Thatcher and itching to nationalise key infrastructure.

/2 First: forget TV gibberish about hearsay. Hearsay is an out of court statement offered to prove the truth of the matter asserted in the statement. For instance, the testimony "Mark told me Scott abused the ponies," to prove Scott abused ponies, is hearsay.
/3 There are many exceptions. Most commonly: a statement by the other side in a case isn't hearsay. So if I sue Scott for abusing my ponies, Scott's out-of-court statements aren't hearsay. He's the "party opponent."
