The demise of the Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo as a symbol of how modern urban planners euthanize urban culture all over the world. We need more open food markets, less logistics hubs, more butchers and green grocers on small streets, less supermarkets. theamericanconservative.com/urbs/what-toky…
The same thing has happened countless times before, Paris 1971 is another famous example. Once killed, these urban spaces and communities will never ever come back. It takes millennia for thousands to grow a good city. A single politician can destroy it with a single signature.
Just as when dozens of Tokyo rivers and streams were paved over in the name of preparing the city for the 1964 Olympics, so will it be this time around, for the 2020 Olympics. That huge scam and city killer...
Economically, the ongoing project to destroy everything authentic and local in our cities are going to ruin us. We are throwing what is sustainable and adaptable away for what is unsustainable and unadaptable, and unlovable. #ReverTheLocal
No tourists ever to go look at an efficient interchange, a bus depot or a logistics center. When Tokyo is killing its local markets one after the other they are making sure fewer and fewer tourists will bother visiting, and making life less interesting for us who live here.
The result is a people without roots (for who will bother putting down roots in a place that is neither loved nor lovable?), where no one will put in the effort to build or improve on anything, because what is the point when nothing is sacred anymore? Markets are secular shrines.
We are moving from a world of countless streets lined with Trattoria, family owned and family run, to one of a few soulless food courts, corporate canteens, feeding centers that contribute absolutely nothing to the wellbeing of anyone or anywhere. #RevereTheLocal #RejectTheGlobal
