My hand is raised. A good chunk of one of my books deals with this. Somehow I'm not invited to these confabs. The reasons aren't mysterious.
My argument is rooted in a critique of the systems, particular the labor conditions for both teachers and students. I offer plenty of help when it comes to changing pedagogy, but the underlying conditions matter much more. School reformers don't want to address this.
I essentially argue that those in power should be removed from power, or more accurately, certain powers should be relocated inside our education systems. None of the people (including iconoclastic reformers) want to confront this, so it's easier to just ignore folks like me.
To be honest, if I'm ever invited inside the tent, I'll probably start figuring out how to remove those who don't want to relinquish their power to students and teachers, so for their own self-preservation they should probably continue to ignore me.
For instance, billionaires would no longer be allowed to dictate the direction of policy. I'll happily take their money, but they can shuffle off to Buffalo and let the team of experts who have actually taught students work the problem.
I'd also close down public schools as marketplace opportunities for every last ed tech grifter on the planet. The bar for adoption would be high, and it would be driven by learning goals, not what has the best pitch.
I'd also talk about how there is no one-size-fits all solution for schools. Good schools are a process rooted in the unique community of families, teachers, and learners. The idea that a single approach could span all schools and "improve" them is fanciful.
