Carriers’ sale of your location data is wrong and illegal. But like so many other forms of surveillance, people may not easily learn when carriers have sold their data to third parties, even though reporting shows it was readily available to almost anyone. vice.com/en_us/article/…
EFF wants to hear from people who suspect their cellphone carriers sold their data. But how would you know? News reports provide several scenarios that suggest carriers’ sale of customers’ location was likely, including:
- Bounty hunters or bail bondsmen finding people in locations they do not normally visit or live, including using GPS-assisted tracking technology to precisely locate them. vice.com/en_us/article/…
- Creditors or others using the technology to locate individuals or repossess vehicles, including finding the vehicles in places they were not likely to be parked. web.archive.org/web/2019010215…
