Today’s Pentecost Sunday. Never really celebrated it growing up. Or knew it existed for that matter. But if you don’t know, basically it celebrates when the Spirit first came and baptized the first believers in Jerusalem after the resurrection.
I grew up not really having a relationship with the Spirit—or even knowing I could. But I’m indebted to @sherryksherryk, my middle school art teacher, for introducing me.
It was nothing special. She just lived out a super real and authentic walk with God. She taught me I can actually enjoy God (imagine that!). That I can actually encounter his presence.
That prayer isn’t just a one-way conversation, but that God actually speaks back. And we don’t have to approach him with religious ritual—he just wants our hearts.
I had a lot of doctrinal barriers, inhibitions, and suspicions regarding the Spirit. But when I saw Sherry’s life and walk with him, I couldn’t deny it anymore. Couldn’t deny his power and moving anymore.
There’s way more to my story getting to know the Spirit. But that’s where it all began. I’m still on the journey. And he keeps beckoning me deeper and deeper into relationship with himself every day.
