BREAKING: Developer Ola Bini freed from Ecuadorean jail after his habeas corpus plea was granted by the local court.
The courts responded to the clear facts pointed out by Ola's lawyers, and human rights groups, and thousands around the world: that the "evidence" used to hold Ola in jail were common tools and books that could be owned by any technologist.
Thank you to all the supporters across the world who joined us in speaking out when Ola was first imprisoned. Global scrutiny is vital in cases like these.

AT&T's announcement that it will scale down its efforts to bring fiber to more homes should be a wake up call to state and federal policymakers. If major providers won't do it, then we must ask ourselves: Who will? And how can we promote their entry?

Today I received the dismissal of my ethics complaint against Judge Trump Barry.

A few thoughts (1/x)
First, you may be asking why this came from the Second Circuit when she was a judge on the Third Circuit. That one’s easy—the Third Circuit properly transferred the case to avoid the appearance of conflict in judging one of their colleagues. (2/x)
Second, the ruling explains that at some point since the Times article was published, Judge Trump Barry switched from an inactive senior judge (under 28 USC §371(b)(2), it seems) to a retired judge (§371(a)).

Why would she do this? (3/x)

Federal complaint accuses University of Texas men's tennis coach Michael Center of signing a player with little tennis experience to a small scholarship. In exchange, Center got about $90,000. Center told informant that he spent some of the money on UT's new tennis facility.
This happened in 2015, the complaint says. After the "player" got into school, he quit the team and renounced his scholarship. In conversation with an informant last year, Center indicated he'd be willing to do a similar scheme with another student who wanted to attend Texas.
The "player" that University of Texas tennis coach Michael Center "recruited" was from Los Altos Hills, Calif., court documents show. He played one year of tennis as a high school freshman.

This is a quote you’ve all probably seen a million times. #Advertising & #techie shitheads love quoting it before they do trends porn. What they never seem to understand is how politically subversive the last bit is. B/c those wankers abuse it I swore I’d never use it.
Still, paraphrasing it is useful for my point. One person’s future is another person’s dystopia and thanks to the fundamental power of the Internet as a tool for distribution we can spread dystopia far and wide. Often before we know it, realise it, or even imagine it.
