1/ This is outrageous. @DavidNeiwert is one of the country’s best research and writers on white supremacist groups. As any of the many journalists who have or do work at Twitter know. @kvox @evnhsn
For example, here is a pre-2016 piece that he and @sarahposner wrote for @MotherJones about how Trump was radicalizing white supremacists. Something that many in MSM scoffed at at the time motherjones.com/politics/2016/…
3/ So to repeat the lessons of this week: Twitter won’t suspend Nazis. Will suspend researchers writing about Nazis. Will suspend women fleeing abuse in Saudi Arabia.

4/ it is just not this hard. They’ve literally had a decade to figure this shit out.

Just hire humans with actual judgement.

.@missionpie owners own their building, they pay $15-20 an hour plus tips and good benefits, and there is no way to retain staff, no way to earn enough to raise wages more/fast enough to keep up, unless they abandon the other principles that caused them to create business.

In its handling sexual and other forms of harassment, Twitter pretends as if their central concern is making sure no one is being unfairly silenced.

The fact is, though, this kind of targeted hate speech towards women and trans folks is intentional, silencing terrorism.
Terrorism sounds kind of dramatic, right?

And yet, at its core, that's what these threatening and harassing behaviors are.

Terrorism is fundamentally a political effort to scare folks into or out of certain behaviors using a threat of bodily harm.

That's what these guys do.

1) So now we have self-described “progressives” like @ggreenwald and @mtracey telling us that the threat of white nationalism in the USA is “nonexistent” (as Tracey put it), and when called out for that GG chimes in and claims that we “needs be keep the threat in perspective.”
2) This is of course, classic Greenwald. The unfortunate truth is that this would-be icon of progressive politics in fact has a long history of minimizing, apologizing for, and empowering white supremacists, then wrapping himself in a self-righteous Free Speech blanket.
3) Gather ‘round, kids, while I replay for you the tale of the little Pontifex Maximus and his lawyer. Better settle in, because it’s a massive, 100-plus-tweet thread. But worth it.

One of the main reasons white supremacist violence will continue to happen in the U.S. is because federal law enforcement has repeatedly shown it doesn't care about it. They don't make it a priority despite the stats showing it's the main source of domestic terror.

Twitter is a #racializedorganization that clearly distributes resources along racial lines.
This story is amazing because it shows a key idea from Critical Race Theory—that so-called neutral rules or procedures often have a racial element. And racial power shapes the application of rules in ways that typically disadvantage people of color.
So here we have a corporation refusing to remove white supremacist propaganda because the ruling political party will be angry. Twitter is basically saying that the GOP is a white supremacist party.
