2) In 1738 Pope Clement XII issued a Papal Bull which stated that any Catholic who became a Mason would be excommunicated, a very serious punishment. guess some shady stuff was taking place? #Freemasonry #Vatican
3) By 1884 Pope Leo XIII issued a proclamation stating that Masonry was one of the secret societies attempting to "revive the manners and customs of the pagans" and "establish Satan's kingdom on Earth." Sounds like a pretty hyper specific warning to me.
4) let's fast-forward a bit now to Pope John XXIII who headed the Catholic church from 1958-1963. could be nothing, I'm not making any claims here. that symbolism though....... also, remember 1958
5) rewind a touch now. early 1940s, the I.G. Farben Chemical Co employed a Polish salesman who sold cyanide to Nazis for use in Auschwitz and worked as a chemist of poison gas. After the war, fearing for his life, joined the Catholic Church and was ordained a priest in 1946.....
6) The salesman was ordained Poland's youngest bishop in 1958!!! In 1978, after a 30-day reign, his predecessor was assassinated and our ex-cyanide gas salesman assumed the papacy as Pope John Paul II. What are the chances....
7) welp... on November 27, 1983, the Pope retracted all of the Papal Bulls against Freemasonry and allowed Catholics, after several hundred years, to again become members of secret societies without fear of excommunication. well okay.... wonder why
8) by 1990 the right leaders were in place: ex-chief of the Soviet secret police Mikhail Gorbachev, ex-chief of CIA George Bush, ex-Nazi cyanide gas salesman Pope John Paul II, all bound by an unholy alliance to ring in the New World Order. remember?

2) while widely researched, Walts birth (12/05/01) is still shrouded in secrecy due to the lack of a birth certificate or DNA testing. it's almost certain that he (and brother Roy) was a bastard child. one of his many dark secrets used to blackmail him throughout his career
3) growing up in an abusive home environment, he fell in love with animation, nature and children. he seemed to have an intuitive ability to bring his dark experiences to light in cartoons that appealed to children. just check out some of the earliest Disney comic strips. normal?

I've been thinking a bit about the growing practice of fine-tuning generic pretrained models: first in computer vision, now NLP (highly recommend @seb_ruder's great article on this ruder.io/nlp-imagenet/)...Last time I mentioned this, people were skeptical that RL would be next.
E.g. folks pointed out that RL is maybe the wrong level/domain of analysis, and maybe there is insufficient commonality across RL tasks people care about for this to make sense, etc... But in any case, I suspect more will happen in this vein beyond vision and NLP.
The simplest extrapolation would just be that, just as vision and NLP gradually matured to a point of being super commercially/creatively/etc. relevant over the course of many years, multimodal stuff combining vision+NLP might eventually reach that point + follow a similar path.

Charlatans like Abramson on some level know that they’ve been peddling a fraud, so instead of defending their debunked arguments on the merits, they resort to bogus appeals to credentialism: a fallacy Seth should’ve learned about in law school
The only reason Abramson garnered a platform was because he pioneered a groundbreaking form of “experimental journalism” which entailed hawking bias-affirming theories to Bernie Sanders supporters about how he was #actually leading Hillary Clinton in the delegate count

The Whelan story is now starting to come into clearer focus. Here are some observations:

1. He’s clearly a pawn in a larger game. The FSB most likely nabbed him to set up a swap for Butina, as has been widely discussed.
2. Whelan’s larceny conviction suggests he may have been amenable to earning a quick buck. At a minimum, he was clearly open to approaches by unknown Russians, suggesting a high degree of naïveté about his new Russian “friends.”
3. The FSB tracks every active-duty and retired US service-member in Russia. So he would have certainly been in their sights, and likely over the course of many years. However, they probably saw little use in him until Butina’s arrest.

The way they’re all calling for civility and attacking ostracism, you might almost get the impression that civility helps them and ostracism harms them, weird.
Asking people to make peace with an abuser while the abuse is ongoing is itself abuse.
Watching people who have spent their careers murdering civility in politics suddenly bemoaning the lack of civility in politics, in service of crushing a Pennsylvania small business that insulted one of them, is quite a treat.

Like watching wasps swarm.
