Here we go! Did you notice how they all did the point, smile and wave? This offers social proof of popularity. in addition note how some candidates are attempting to talk to others to demonstratetheir ability to keep communication open and appear willingto extend an olive branch
Beto already starts fidgeting with his hand
one of warrens tells is that she starts her sentences off with "so" when she feels strongly about something
klobucher note how constantly lifts her eyebrows for emphasis - however, you can hear the tremble in her voice - nervous #DemDebate
Beto watch how he fidgets - he needs to steeple his hands to soothe himself. ridiculous to speak in Spanish and English - he only has 60 seconds so he literally gives half an answer #DemDebate
booker has a lower than average blink rate - that makes him come across as calmer and more relaxed. #DemDebate
Warren, note the "so" again. she also bobbles her head too much, however, her energy seems to keep her appearing younger than she is. #DemDebate
Castro high eyebrows for emphasis - upward palms to demonstrate honesty and a genuine nature. #DemDebate
Gabbard, she served in Afghanistan so note how she keeps her hands in a semi-high fig leaf. #DemDebate
Deblasio interesting how he uses both hands for different reasons - well have to watch to see if he is anchoring points on different hands #DemDebate
Delaney he keeps his hands close to his chest and uses them well. #DemDebate
insole - chopping motion with a lot of passion #DemDebate
@ewarren "so". it becomes incredibly tedious after a while - she needs to control that. #DemDebate
@ewarren is completely congruent, passionate and intelligent - she is going to be a strong candidate. #DemDebate
@BetoORourke tongue comes out slightly after discussing woman rights of her body #DemDebate
@CoryBooker talking about healthcare does an extended blin when mentioning retirement?
@amyklobuchar is starting to find her groove - note how she bent down and lifted up - feels empowered. #DemDebate
@JulianCastro - "reproductive justice" the voice change for emphasis - . mouth movements * #DemDebate
@CoryBooker slight anger when answering about big Pharma - noted in eyebrows with slight disgust demonstrated by the nose shrug. #DemDebate
moderator has more passion than most of the candidates... #DemDebate
@JulianCastro "first candidate" note the minor bounce in his step - again shows confidence. "piss us off" - lets see how potty words go over if this is the start of acceptance #DemDebate
@CoryBooker "this president is doing" extended eye contact - #DemDebate
@BetoORourke does not stop fidgeting or moving around he needs better control of his movements #DemDebate
@NYCMayor looks directly into the camera to speak to us as home - the MAJORITY of the candidates are looking at moderators
@BetoORourke - when preparing to speak, he again likes his lips. does @JulianCastro realize how rude it comes across to interrupt other candidates. second sling from one candidate to another - castro to Beto. #DemDebate
@amyklobuchar looks up to left when she says immigrants * #DemDebate
@RepTimRyan - note the anger in the mouth as well as the hard blink while talking about @realDonaldTrump
@GovInslee note how he nods up an down as he speaks - directing people in the audience on an unconscious level to agree with him. #DemDebate
@GovInslee tongue swipe at the end of his comment #DemDebate
@CoryBooker - by smiling slightly as he speaks, he comes across as serious and calm. #DemDebate
we never want to say that looks matter but they DO, @amyklobuchar needs to have her eyebrows evened (something that can be done with a pinch of botox) and also needs to wipe the sweat off of her face so she doesn't look nervous
- im sure its the hot lights, however, perception is very important with HDTV #DemDebate
note as the tv spans the different ways the candidates stand - some with hands behind their back, some with fig leaf position, some hunched, some leaning on the podium, some fidgeting (guess who that is). Each person is displaying who they are, note those small moments of reality
- especially after being onstage for an hour, autopilot starts to re-emerge. #DemDebate
@ewarren - note when she gets applause she does a palm down to quiet the crowd and note that this is serious and she is not finished speaking #DemDebate
@ewarren - as her time is over, she blinks more knowing that she is out of time. #DemDebate
@CoryBooker - again, note that when he is bothered by something he extends his blink. in addition, he does head negation which will be misconstrued as disagreeing with his statement. #DemDebate
@RepTimRyan rolls his mouth around quite often - even when he is not speaking #DemDebate
@BetoORourke (check finger from Ryan*) has so much pent up energy, he constantly moves. #DemDebate
@amyklobuchar needs to reign in her smiling at certain times - she has a permagrin #DemDebate
interesting that when @BilldeBlasio started speaking, several of the other candidates looked to him. they have typically been looking down when others answer questions. #DemDebate
@ewarren with the dramatic pregnant pause allowing herself to soak in the applause. #DemDebate
I have not seen any of the candidates drink water - have you? #DemDebate
@JulianCastro has a natural smirk - watch how the left side of his lip is always slightly higher than the right when he is listening as opposed to speaking. #DemDebate
@RepTimRyan has tiny tight lips so he has a resting face of anger even when he isn't angry - part of his baseline so keep that in mind when watching him. #DemDebate
Ryan with the lip lick at the end of his answer
even if you don't like him, do you feel the difference when @BilldeBlasio speaks directly to you (tv audience members) as opposed to @BetoORourke answering the moderator? #DemDebate
@GovInslee with the win for applause with trump comment #DemDebate
@JohnDelaney smirk while being questioned about trump - his wide eye look is distracting. #DemDebate
@JohnDelaney leg movements after his comment * (possible back issues?) #DemDebate
@TulsiGabbard - smart closes by looking into the camera and talks to the people at home. #DemDebate
@CoryBooker with one sided shrug when discussing poverty #DemDebate
interesting to see who wants to stay on stage and be seen and who goes down onto the floor to be with the people. #DemDebate
Goodnight and thank you all for playing. I will spend some time reviewing your questions and answering as best I can. Some of my notes are confusing - I will clean them up and clarify after rewatching the debate tomorrow morning.
