So Disneyland has been pretty empty since Star Wars Land opened, and everybody's been thinkpiecing about how the land's a failure or whatever and it's not that deep.
It's possible that the amount of early publicity, from Disney and otherwise, about how horrendously crowded it was going to be did scare off some out-of-town visitors, which did happen at the eurodisney grand opening.
BUT, in anticipation of crowds, disney blocked out all but the two highest annual passes. That's it, that's the real difference
Florida doesn't have this problem but California, being more driveable to locals, has a massive AP culture which has been the biggest contributor to park crowding (and very aggressive crowds) for years
As soon as the passes are all unblocked at the end of summer (or if Disney gets tired of low attendance and unblocks them early) we'll see all the crowds and frenzy we were expecting. In the meantime, it's a great time to visit
