REPORTERS: Why is no one talking about this?

This proposal will affect as many as 25,000 families nationally. That's roughly 100,000 people.

THIS IS INSANE.

"Since 1980, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has allowed households that include noncitizens to receive benefits for public or subsidized housing, but the proposed rule would rescind that coverage for current recipients and any going forward."
📢TOMORROW is the deadline to receive comments on this proposal that could evict & separate THOUSANDS of families with mixed-citizenship status who receive housing assistance nationally.

Let's FLOOD the Federal Register's inbox: Cancel the rule-change.

THREAD: Thousands of people are being jailed by @DHSgov in camps and detention centers. Conditions in these facilities are grotesque.

In the past few weeks we’ve learned that the illness, hunger, and trauma that take place within are more widespread than previously known.
With the funding Congress has allocated, DHS continues to expand its incarceration of immigrants rather than improve conditions for those already in detention.

It’s clear immigration authorities are more interested in jailing migrants than caring for them.
TODAY Congress will consider 2 amendments put forth by @AOC to the National Defense Authorization Act that would ban troops from being deployed at the border and prevent the use of Department of Defense facilities for warehousing people who are seeking home and safety in the U.S.

The hearing will examine the impact of the Trump Admin's deterrence policies on the humanitarian crisis at the border, recent reports of dangerous conditions and medical neglect, and the lack of accountability for abuse and misconduct at detention facilities.

The following facilities started housing ICE detainees last month:
- Adams County Correctional Center: Mississippi prison operated by @CoreCivic
- Catahoula Correctional Center: Louisiana jail run by LaSalle Corrections
- ICE Processing Center: run by @GEOGroup in Louisiana
"Together, the 3 detention centers can hold about 4,000 people, potentially expanding ICE’s presence in the states of LA & MS by 50%."

With the opening of these facilities ICE has pushed its detention population to an all-time high of 54,000 people. But why these states?
Concentrating asylum seekers in Southern states makes it particularly likely that they will lose their cases because of the region’s harsh judges & shortage of immigration lawyers.

You know I can feel this combination of [being aware of] escalating fascism and climate anxiety/fear/sadness is literally aging me. The first stabs of horror are replaced by a dull ache that never goes away. Each new attack is a confirmation of the original injury.

Despite the EU confirming that the time for talking is over, Theresa May is still trying to insist that Brexit negotiations are "still ongoing".

In the early 1960s when the UK was negotiating to join the then EEC (EU) the Government thought it could have its cake and eat it too. HMG wanted both a comprehensive free trade agreement with Europe but also to maintain an independent trade policy with the rest of the world.
The UK was asking to have the benefits of the Common Market but didn’t want the responsibilities of complying with EEC regulations or its Common External Tariff.

Britain wasn’t simply seeking to join. It first wanted to change the rules and then join.
