Today Yazmin Juarez, whose 19-month-old daughter, Mariee died shortly after they were released by ICE is testifying before the House Committee on Oversight and Reform and the subcommittees on Civil Rights & Civil Liberties at the "Kids in Cages" hearing. cnn.it/2XCddpj
The hearing will examine the impact of the Trump Admin's deterrence policies on the humanitarian crisis at the border, recent reports of dangerous conditions and medical neglect, and the lack of accountability for abuse and misconduct at detention facilities.
Although some Members of Congress witnessed the abuse migrants endure, during their visit to El Paso last week...

That doesn't even begin to cover it.

1 year ago today the first 12 families arrived at Karnes Detention Facility after months of being separated by the Zero Tolerance policy.

They expected freedom but many remained detained for far longer...
Every day families waited in detention was one more day of trauma & incarceration when they should’ve been healing from separation.

Later this summer we’ll publish a report on their experiences compiled from data, interviews, & declarations.
Our aim is to illuminate how family separation AND detention are unacceptable & to add to the public record of atrocities committed against migrant families in the ongoing fight for immigrant justice.

It's v hard to keep up with all the terrible immigration news but it's imp you try to. One of the most vindictive policies Trump has implemented is called Migrant Protection Protocols.

Gerardo is a 41 y/old bricklayer from Guatemala. The MPP policy forcibly separated him from his son, Walter, for two months. When he appeared in court he asked the judge: “Can you help me get my son back?”

Gerardo was separated from Walter because they said he had faulty docs. Two months later they were reunited using the same docs declared fake at the border 3 months earlier.

There's now over 15,000 people suffering from this horrible policy.

@vjeannek 3/ Things like subpoena power being singular, in other words not needing an agreement of committee leaders. If one side wants to subpoena witnesses they should be able to and the other side not block them by failing to agree.
