I presume his reasons were as in the letter, because it had become impossible to do the job rather than something more sinister.
But this is a profound national humiliation.
A leak clearly intended to get rid of Darroch. A president who then attacks the UK in the most disrespectful language imaginable. A man about to become PM unwilling to stand up to him. And now this. Doing what we're told when abused.
This is the sovereignty they sold us: total subservience to Washington.
