I've no doubt that the wise elder states-person role is a very attractive one to a departing PM. But you can't just flick from Terminator to Yoda. No-one's buying that shit.
Theresa May did not fail because she offered compromise. She failed because she limited her options in future in order to minimise trouble in the present. It was a highly irrational strategy which eventually reduced the alternatives to zero.
Shame that the incoming PM appears to share precise the same approach.
