Today, Attorney General Barr gave a speech on encryption and became the latest DOJ official to recycle debunked arguments about the need for "lawful access" to encrypted data. justice.gov/opa/speech/att…
For years, experts in the field have explained that proposals to allow “exceptional access” to encrypted communications suffer from serious technical flaws that would endanger everyone’s digital security. eff.org/deeplinks/2018…
And the DOJ and FBI haven't been able to back up their claims that criminals are "going dark." In fact, any hard numbers they've produced have proven unreliable. techcrunch.com/2018/05/22/fbi…
That’s why we should be wary when Barr and others say that exceptional access is possible without compromising encryption. Breaking encryption for law enforcement access is still breaking encryption, and we will fight it every step of the way. eff.org/deeplinks/2019…

The Trump-Russia probe came to its official end April 18, at least legally, when Attorney General William Barr outlined his conclusions of the special counsel report that the Trump campaign did not collude with Russia, and that Trump did not obstruct justice. (1)
During any sane part of history, the fact that a sitting president did not collude with a foreign government, and did not obstruct an investigation into the allegations, would be a good thing. But this wasn’t the case on Thursday. (2)
