Memo to self, don't rent a @chevrolet Cruze ever again. 😁
Wanna hear the story?
So I just came back from a business trip by car. When coming from the East, I get off the 417 at exit 96 and fill up at the MacEwens at the corner of Mitch-Owens and Albion.
I then head to the airport to return the car (more convient hours) *or* I sometimes stop at the Rideau Carleton racetrack to play the slots before returning the car, which I *tried* to do.
The parking lot was full due to a classic car event. I finally found a spot close to the big sign on the North end of the parking lot.
I shut the engine, leave the car, try to lock the doors with the key fob...

Nothing.

I tried hitting the key fob.

Still nothing.
Now I had a problem. So I tried to skip the slots and return the car to @Enterprise at the airport.

The car wouldn't start.

Instead, a message was displayed that the key couldn't be found and to put it in the "console" to start the car.

Didn't work.
You still with me?
So I pressed the @OnStar button. They connected me with @Enterprise and we all tried to find the slot where the key fob was suppose to go.
It turns out @chevrolet's manuals are crap. The only thing I could do was pull out the physical key from the fob which only works on the doors once you remove a cover that gives you access to the key slot. The key can't be used to start the car.
The CSR at @Enterprise suggested looking inside the glove box where I did find a cut-out on the roof of the box, so I put the key fob in there.

It was just an unused cut-out. I found that out when the key fob slipped and fell behind the panel with no way to get to it!
That's when roadside assistance was contacted for a tow. 😁

The ETA was one hour, which they did respect since I eventually would have to pee. 😖
The conclusion coming up once I get home. We haven't arrived at the punchline yet!
So here I am, in a parking lot, waiting for a tow truck, with my bladder demanding more and more attention.

While waiting, I keep trying to start the car. No such luck.
As the event being held in the Rideau Carleton racetrack's parking lot started to wind down, people started to leave.

I then notice that the women in the car next to mine also were having trouble with their key fob. However, they had physical keys that worked, so they drove off.
That's when I started to wonder if there was some kind of radio frequency interference going on somewhere.
I kept waiting, working out how I could "sneak a leak" in case the tow truck was late.

I kept trying to start the car every few minutes.
Suddenly...

VROOM!!!

The car starts!

The key fob was visible again!

Then...

RING!

It's my phone! The tow truck has arrived! They were a bit early and found me very quickly!
I explained the situation and told the two tow truck operators where the key fob ran off. They tried to find a way to open the back panel without causing any damage but couldn't.
Now that the car was running, it was decided to take it back to the airport under its own power. The tow truck did follow me for a while just in case the car cut out, but it didn't and they headed off to their next call.
I finally got to the airport safe and sound, told my story to the @Enterprise clerk, and was reassured everything would be taken care of at no extra charge (I always take full coverage when renting cars).
@Enterprise One last item. I couldn't pop the trunk open from the outside, and couldn't find any release button inside the car. So I folded down the rear seat to get my bag out.

When the clerk showed up, he indicated that the trunk's release button was on the door. 🤬🤬🤬
@Enterprise I stopped at the loo, hopped on a bus, and I'm now home.

The end.
@Enterprise A follow-up. I found this thread. This is an old issue. cruzetalk.com/threads/2017-c…
