the christchurch shooting has directly inspired at least 2 separate incidents of US domestic terror: the chabad of poway shooting and today’s el paso massacre. all three killers shared the same belief in “great replacement” theory 1/
the theory - put forth by french philosopher renaud camus in a 2012 book of the same title - envisions white, christian europeans being deliberately outbred and replaced by immigrants, and the white race diluted out of existence by interbreeding. 2/
the chabad of poway shooter explicitly said jews were blame for this “plot.” the tree of life shooter was motivated by the same theory. 3:
white supremacy is an international movement with ideological, financial and interpersonal links across the Atlantic and extending to Australia and New Zealand. the christchurch shooter donated substantially to, and emailed with, martin sellner, an austrian far-right leader 4/
sellner is romantically linked to an american white supremacist social media personality, brittany pettibone. this movement spans the globe, and it’s a death cult. 5/
great replacement theory and its descendants view immigration and childbirth as zero-sum games. a frequently used phrase that sums up their beliefs is “white genocide”: they believe that the risk to white racial purity is imminent, existential and worth dying to prevent. 6/
these shooters aren’t “lone wolves.” they’re part of a movement, subscribers to an ideology disseminated on the Internet across the world. these violent events inspire one another. manifestoes reference prior shootings constantly, incl. anders breivik’s mass murder in norway.
and across the white supremacist internet, shooters are immediately hailed as “saints.” it’s a consistently used term. there is a cult of worship of murderers. white supremacy is a death cult. these are screenshots from far right telegram channels
and by demonizing immigrants, using words like “infested” and stirring panic of “invasion,” this administration is aiding and abetting domestic terrorism. he speaks and form policies from the same place of hateful white fear that forms the backbone of great replacement theory.
the people chanting “jews will not replace us” in charlottesville were referencing great replacement theory. so is everyone referencing a feared “invasion” of immigrants, albeit sometimes in diluted form. it is an ideology that speaks only in violence, and it is a global threat.
i wouldn’t be surprised if there was another white supremacy inspired terror attack within the next month. many of the online spaces white supremacists gather are fully radicalized into support and glorification of violence. nowhere else to go.
