Bitmitigate is now owned by Epik, which hosts Gab, a far-right social media network. Gab is also where Tree of Life shooter Robert Bowers posted his final statement.

I, among other people who track the far-right obsessively, are really nervous about an event that might devolve into outright far right violence. It is planned for Portland, Oregon, on August 17th. 1/ wweek.com/news/courts/20…
For the past two years, extremist groups like Patriot Prayer & the Proud Boys have descended on Portland, where they regularly encounter anti-fascist groups in street brawls. They bus in from other cities, over 15 times last year alone. 2/ wweek.com/news/2018/08/0…
Several of these encounters have descended into all-out melees, with severe injuries. The PPB & DA have largely declined to prosecute the far-right for countless assaults, & local press has covered communication between police and far right groups. 3/ wweek.com/news/courts/20…

NEW: Plaintiffs in @IntegrityForUSA's #Charlottesville suit asked the court to act after neo-Nazi defendant Cantwell threatened counsel @kaplanrobbie.

Given Cantwell's history of violence & loyal following of far-right extremists, a threat like this is particularly concerning .
@IntegrityforUSA @kaplanrobbie The pattern is clear: extremist leaders co-opt social media platforms to spread their vile threats – and then the next disaffected white nationalist tries to turn those threats into action in an attempt to make a name for himself in this twisted community.

So much has happened over the last two weeks, it can be hard to process the collection of emotions: pain, sorrow, rage, + joy. But as we look back one year after #Charlottesville, there is still a large hole in our discussions of these events, primarily: the role of the police.
Over the coming days, many of us will be asked a similar question by loved one, friends, + co-workers: "Why do the police protect the Nazis?" "Why did they attack one side in Portland, + not the other?" While it is easy to resort to bumper sticker answers, the truth is complex.
The recent piece from @ACInvestigates + @ProPublica begins to scratch the surface. In their recent doc, they talk with an ex-FBI agent who rightfully concludes that coddling by law enforcement acts as a green light for the far-Right to engage in violence in a variety of settings.
