I was just thinking about the Vegas survivors who were at the Thousand Oaks shooting. There was a small group of them, and one, Telemachus Orfanos, was killed, murdered in a mass shooting only a year after he escaped from another.
When I went to google this story—because I couldn’t remember which of the many mass shootings it was about—I learned that three Vegas survivors also just escaped the Gilroy Garlic Festival.
This is dystopia, it’s fucking here, we live in a country where mass shootings are so common that multiple people have survived—or not survived—more than one because they went outside to do normal everyday American things.
It is unbelievable that our government won’t take action to stop this shit. This is one of the fundamental reasons we have government, we let ourselves be governed so when massive numbers of us die off for preventable reasons, the people we put in charge fucking do something.
These fucking gun nuts screaming about freedom like there is one Freedom and not multiple freedoms that impinge on one another. There is a point at which our right to bear arms diminishes our freedom to live our lives, and we are past it, we passed it years ago.
By the way, it definitely matters why a terrorist does what he does, and it is fucked and terrible and depressingly unsurprising that so many of them happen to hate immigrants and love Trump. But every country has hateful, scary people. Only ours lets them have at the rest of us.
