What a fool that 2012 blogger person was. For sure, Baldwin is correct and won the debate (and Buckley even ultimately renounced his own views), but our norm-shattering President has revealed that debating from a place of values is, I don't know...quaint?

Perhaps I'm sensitive to this because of my training and work as a fiction writer, but the use of 3rd person POV close to Trump in the lede of this article has the effect of humanizing his actions. Don't know if this is intentional or not. nytimes.com/2019/08/09/us/…
When I teach narrative writing, we talk more about POV more than anything else. The place where the narrative intelligence rests has a huge impact on how the story is perceived. These are not neutral choices and they must be made with care.
The POV shift in the next two paragraphs winds up giving a very favorable spin to a photo-op that many believe to be "grotesque." By framing it through the uncle, we have a different narrative.

Curious if any WPAs or composition instructors are consulted by their teaching/learning divisions about purchasing tools like Turnitin prior to the choice being made. Do they reach out to the experts on campus?
I get the emails about another tool from Turnitin (or the like) and every time I wonder, "Did they talk to our director of comp. about that?"
I understand that there's some faculty who demand these tools because they think they need them, but there are other ways and people on campus who know what they are.

The big news on Harry and Meghan’s baby plans is... No News. Statement from @RoyalFamily says that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex want to keep their plans ‘private’
So no Lindo Wing photocall like William and Kate. No announcement which hospital Meghan has chosen or whether she wants a home birth.
Not a huge surprise. When Louis was due, the media was given the plans more than 2 months before his birth. Harry and Meghan have decided, with just days to go before the due date, they do not wish to share their plans with the public 👶

As someone who has attended, researched, and worked at Maryland, I keep wondering: how did we get here? I think it starts before Loh, when the university drastically elevated its aspirations. A brief timeline.
For me, the Maryland of today really started to take shape in 1998 when Dan Mote became president. At that time, Maryland was much more accessible, engaged in less research, and often didn't compare itself to major flagship universities. Mote changed all of that.
Using "excellence" as his guiding principle, Mote immediately set out the raise the bar Maryland used to judge itself. He wanted the university to see itself differently, as major research university. And he thought it was a problem that Maryland wasn't particularly selective.

The accidental upload has a tasty little nugget in it.

The doc is only one page and appears to be internal notes written by Manafort's legal team about the case chronology.

About halfway down the page is this savory little bite.

That acronyms in that highlighted section:

DMI is Manafort's company. DMP International (DMI)

CS-1 in FBI parlance would appear to refer to "Confidential Source #1"

As in, "The person inside Manafort's firm who was helping Bob Mueller".
