Uh... I'm not really a fan of the whole Battlepass model but this is actually really messed up? What's going on over at Epic lately?
Essentially, when Epic introduced pets a few months ago, they were exclusive to the Battlepass. You paid $10 or whatever, got a huge list of missions, and as you worked your way through them you got cosmetics. Including pets, like the dog, Bonesy.
There was no other way to get Bonesy. You paid $10, you spent hours and hours completing missions, and your reward was Bonesy, a cute little dog that lives in your backpack.
Today, Epic added the ability to BUY a dog, Gunner. Same mesh as Bonesy, practically the same color. Sure, fine, whatever, nothing is limited edition anymore in a digital marketplace. Except to buy Gunner costs more than the Battlepass to unlock Bonesy?
And, I dunno, that feels really gross to me. Not because it's invalidating how special Bonesy was to unlock, but because Epic is clearly jabbing people for a badge of privilege, I guess. It feels predatory. Malibu Stacy has a new hat, and she's $5 more expensive because of it.
This is on top of the fact that Epic is doing away with the free Battlepass and forcing people to pay $10 for that mission pack. And then everything with Epic buying up exclusives for a storefront that STILL, after MONTHS, is missing extremely basic functionality.
When it rains it pours, and Epic seems to be openly inviting a thunderstorm.
