@Scholars_Stage @CarlZha Thanks, Tim, for making this effort. And I look forward to Carl's points. He is right that we shouldn't trust social media companies so readily. They have shown themselves to be wanting over the recent years. But...
@Scholars_Stage @CarlZha ...on the balance of probabilities, my assessment is that Twitter & FB has made the right call in highlighting Beijing's coordinated, covert misinformation campaign on their platforms against the HK protesters.

...
@Scholars_Stage @CarlZha What would take to change my mind? Without getting to philosophical about standards of truth or technical on attribution, here are some:

1. pattern of activity not coordinated
2. genuine people behind these acs
3. not coordinated by state-actor, or state-backed orgs
...
@Scholars_Stage @CarlZha 4. attribution ruled out on balance on analysis
5. any other explanation that would tilt the balance of my assessment in the favour of negative, inc evidence that TW/FB metadata is faulty or that a part of the analysis is demonstrably faulty.

There are others, but I'll stop here
@Scholars_Stage @CarlZha I realise the terms above all need to be defined and agreed to, so happy to do that during the course of this conversation.

Over to you, Carl.
@Scholars_Stage @CarlZha Also @CarlZha, there are very knowledgable people here on cybersecurity, China's information ops, and other relevant topics that can help us out and correct our misconceptions as we continue this discussion.
