I think a lot abt how boomers are alarmed by what they see as millennial inactivity--our rented rooms, lack of purchases, houseplant children--& how their lives were often abt doing BIG things for their BIG careers w/o thinking abt the consequences. We live in the consequences.
It's like swooping through a big buffet, loading your plate, and then wondering why ppl in the next group are just eating rolls? And trying to take rolls out to the parking lot to give to the people out there who can't get into the buffet? What's happening??
And you, with your tummy full of chicken a la king, go through a range of emotions. Should I question the idea that I could take as much as I want because I thought there would always be plenty? Should I accept that there were things I didn't understand then?

I was talking to a fellow chronic people pleaser who said she couldn't fault people who treated her like a gf/therapist/emotional laborer bc she didn't draw hard boundaries against it--she didn't tell them NO, but went along w/ it. She called this "consent." I disagree.
There's the kind of consent people can assume you're giving by NOT proactively, assertively telling them NO, and then there's enthusiastic, affirmative consent: saying YES.
One of the things I find hard in assumed emotional consent relationships is that I have a very hard time NOT bending myself to the needs of others, and I often don't realize I'm engaging in behavior that makes me uncomfortable or violates my boundaries until I'm alone.

The relationship between freelancers and publications as described in this piece by @SilvermanJacob are identical, and I mean identical to the relationship between adjuncts and higher ed institutions. newrepublic.com/article/153744… /thread
The most obvious connection is that both institutions rely on the precariat (freelancers/adjuncts) to stay in operations. Without these highly qualified, skillful practitioners, the larger institutions could not function.
Next, there is little to distinguish those on the "right" side of the equation to the others. Both freelancers and adjuncts have the requisite skills, training, and experience to be full-fledged employees, but they are not given that status.

The government's 'Stronger Towns Fund' could be a turning point in the Brexit debate.

Designed to give cover to Labour MPs to back Theresa May's deal, it is likely to have the opposite effect.

The Fund is a pathetically small amount of money: just 0.05% of total government spending.

It equates to £145m/year for the North of England or less than £10 per person. It is £80m for the Midlands, or £8 per person.

More research showing why the "privacy paradox" is a misnomer.

For those unfamiliar, the "privacy paradox" refers to the notion that people *say* they care about privacy, but then *act* in ways that are at odds with those stated preferences (e.g., sharing information online). 1/
The idea that people's intentions often don't match their actions is nothing new. This has been well-studied with regard to behavior change in psychology. For example, in Ajzen's "Theory of Planned Behavior"
(en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theory_of…), perceptions of control moderate behavior. 2/
That is, people might *want* to behave a certain way, but if they don't believe they have control, often they will ultimately fail to act. This doesn't mean their intentions weren't true. 3/

No, @realDonaldTrump, #MedicareForAll doesn't end Medicare for seniors or "take away benefits"! Rather, it *expands* Medicare to everyone -- increasing young and healthy in the insurance pool -- which allows for huge *improvement* and *expansion* of benefits. A better Medicare!
No, you haven't, @realDonaldTrump. Your administration is suing to end pre-existing condition protections. You have also allowed short-term junk "insurance" plans -- with no ACA protections -- to be sold again. These discriminate against the sick, women, and anyone who needs care
