.@CommonCauseNC accuses Senate redistricting Committee of violating court order. Hise did kick the public and media out of the area where members were drawing maps yesterday evening- it could be seen on the live feed #ncga #ncpol
With the main live video feed- you can only hear audio from one of the computer stations, but you can’t see the computer screen at the same time as you’re hearing folks talk- just a broad large take of the room as a whole #ncga #ncpol
There are video streams of the computer screens, but no audio accompanying them at the same time. So, essentially, you have to choose between seeing or hearing when it comes to the feeds #ncga #ncpol
Here, Hise can be seen on the live feed telling the Sgt at Arms not to let folks beyond the gallery (media was permitted back to the media section) #ncga #ncpol
Before Hise commanded folks back to the gallery, media, members of the public and attorneys could walk around and hear the Senator huddle conversations and watch Senators as they made changes to maps on the computer #ncga #ncpol
The committee should be reconvening soon- they were set to come back 15 min after session #ncga #ncpol
So, for example. You can see people working at this computer 2, and you can see the screen but you can only hear the general sounds of the room, not the map drawing process. #ncga #ncpol
Senators are filing in, looks like meeting will Redistricting Committee will start soon. House committee will meet at 11 am #ncga #ncpol
One way though to potentially fix the in public view issue, if lawmakers don't want to let the public watch them up close, is to add audio to the computer screen video feeds, that way people can see and hear what's happening at each desk, not just the comp. 1 desk #ncga #ncpol
Senate committee has come to order, Hise is chair today #ncga #ncpol
We're starting with an overview from #ncga staff. They have worked with several members on amendments and they have 11 amendments requested #ncpol
The deadline for amendments in Senate committee is noon today #ncga #ncpol
McKissick is asking Hise about how the public can comment on the amendments #ncga #ncpol
Hise says the public portal is open online -- at some point they will need to close that to report out to the members. He said amendments have been drafted on the live stream that anyone in the world could see #ncga #ncpol
Hise plans to make public comment available to committee members throughout -- there were 110 comments submitted first day, but they're not sure how many total at this point #ncga #ncpol
Hise says each of the finalized amendments will be made available online, but each iteration of map changes will not be available #ncga #ncpol
The amendments will not be made available to the public until they are final and under consideration #ncga #ncpol
Senate committee in recess until noon. Hise did not address the accusation that they are violating the court order by not conducting all business in full public view #ncga #ncpol
